A SOKKIA Vulcan 3D Spatial Measuring System...

SOKKIA 3D Laser Mapping:

3D Laser Mapping is the use of low level laser systems to record and map exact 3D coordinates in X,Y,Z space.  Currently reconstructionists sometimes use Electronic Total Stations to collect essentially 2D measurements for use in Kinetic Energy crush calculations.  3D Laser Mapping using the SOKKIA Vulcan Laser Spatial Mapping equipment records in great detail the position of the instrument rod. In most situations with a Total Station you could collect 50 - 200 shots using either reflective sheet targets or reflectorless mode.  Using the Vulcan Laser Mapping System it is common to record over 4,000 data points during the job.  Once collected, MapVista or Autodesk Field Survey will perform post-processing in Field to Finish to create 3d linework.  Below are several examples of Vulcan Laser Mapping.  The Vulcan Laser Mapping System is very flexible and can be used for mapping traffic crash scenes as well as 3d mapping of vehicles.  SOKKIA sells and supports the Vulcan Laser Mapping System along with ArcSecond.

We have found the Laser as a very useful tool in the reconstruction operation.  If you have questions or would like further information you can contact me at 770-516-1606 or Pat Moran at SOKKIA at 1-800-4SOKKIA.  Thomas Langley & Company is the only Vulcan Dealer on the east side of the Mississippi River and the only nationally certified instructor for Vulcan training.
